FESTIVAL DATES: Friday, September 2 – Monday, September 5, 2022

VENUEWASHINGTON PARK

ENTRANCES: Entry gates are located at 51st Street & 51st and Cottage Grove Avenue and at 51st at St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, IL 60615. Everyone will be scanned.

  • No large bags; Bags will be searched  

  • No coolers

  • No umbrellas will be allowed; pack a poncho!

FESTIVAL HOURS: Noon - 10 PM on Friday, September 2; 10 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, Sunday and Monday

AFA is composed of multi-performance spaces, great shopping, Food Court, many pavilions, and more. AFA is becoming the meeting place for the closing of summer events in Chicago, a space to celebrate our aesthetics and humanity.

The festival happens rain or shine. There are some shaded areas in the park.

TICKET QUESTIONS/ISSUES

All tickets are electronic. Your electronic ticket will grant you entry to the festival. If you have any questions about tickets that have already been purchased, INSERT NEXT STEP Paper tickets have barcodes and will only scan once. Duplicated tickets will be rejected and not allowed entry to the AFA.

REFUND POLICY  -  NO REFUND

All tickets are non-refundable. Again, the festival happens rain or shine. Your AFRICAN FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS’ ticket is for entry to the Festival and not for a specific artist who is scheduled to perform. Artists and performance schedules are subject to change without notice. Artist cancellation DOES NOT constitute for a refund.

RE-ENTRY POLICY – Re-entry is allowed with a stamped hand.

There will be NO re-entry during the Festival. Come ready to kick ituntil the sun goes down. Pace yourself. We have 12 hours of excitement for 4 full days of engagement, entertainment, shopping, connecting and enjoyment.

BAG POLICY

NOTEALL attendees will walk through certified metal detectors and bags will be searched at all entrances. Attendees may be subjected to additional screenings, such as magnetometer wanding and/or physical pat down. 

BAGS PERMITTED 

  • Any bag made of clear plastic, clear vinyl or clear PVC smaller than 12” x 6” x 12”

  • Clear bag

  • Small purse/small clutch bags

  • Waist pack or Fanny pack

*ALL permitted bags must be NO LARGER than 12” x 6” x 12”  

BAGS PROHIBITED 

  • ANY bag larger than 12” x 6” x 12”

  • Fabric bags (beach bag, backpack, or any multi-pocket bag)

  • Framed backpack 

ITEMS ALLOWED 

  • Credit, debit & ATM cards

  • Strollers and childcare supplies

  • Chairs/lawn Chairs

NOT ALLOWED 

  • Illegal weapons of any kind/illegal substances/fireworks, explosives or combustibles

  • No outside alcohol beverages of any kind

  • Barbeque grills

  • Tents, canopies or umbrellas

  • Metal water bottles

  • Professional audio or professional video recording equipment, including Go Pros

  • Outside food or beverages, coolers or picnic baskets

  • Mace or pepper spray

  • Pets/animals (except service animals)

  • Selfie sticks, Go Pros sticks or tripods

  • Skateboards, scooters, bikes or personal motor vehicles (Excluding Motorized Wheelchairs)

  • Drones or Aircrafts

  • Carts or wagons of any kind

  • Unauthorized distribution of solicitation materials (handbills, flyers, samples) of any kind

  • No illegal vending is permitted; no unauthorized/unlicensed vendors allowed
